Educational Materials: How to use the Zaky with NICU babies
The Zaky is used by over 300 NICUs and since 2001, especially those that provide Family Centered Care and that are developmentally supportive.
It helps all babies, regardless of size or medical condition (one size fits all). By design, the Zakys may be warmed in the towel warmer and can be scented by the parents by placing them on the bare skin of the chest or behind the neck for at least an hour. Among many other benefits, The Zaky reduces the association of touch with pain by providing a soothing type of touch independent from any hurtful medical procedure. It also reduces the association of movement with stress, as it provides the perfect weight to give boundaries allowing them to move without being restrained.
It is proven to help parents cope with the hospitalization of their baby. Moreover, in case of a loss, it helps parents cope if they can keep the Zaky that helped the baby bond with the parent (some have buried the baby with a Zaky)
